The Project
The Alberta Genealogical
Society
acknowledges the contribution made by Marion Sim in
the creation of
this index. Funding for the project was made possible
by a bequest from
the estate of Charles Douglas Denney (1901-2002) to
the Alberta
Genealogical Society - Edmonton Branch.

Alberta Local History Books
Local history
books
relate the history of a community through stories about
the people,
businesses, schools, churches, and other organizations
that built and
inhabited that community. These stories, often recounted
by the
early settlers and their descendants, can be an
invaluable source of
information for family history researchers, providing
the hard to find
meat on the bones that can add interest and flavour to a
family history.
This all-name index contains all of the names that
appear throughout
the pages of selected Alberta local history books held
in Edmonton by
the Alberta Genealogical Society and the AGS Edmonton
Branch
library. Thus it captures the names of people,
organizations and places that are mentioned in books
which previously
had no index at all, as well as those that are buried in
the stories of
neighbours and therefore may not have appeared in any
previous book
index.
To help determine which Alberta History you may need also
see "Alberta Histories"
included here in a pdf download. This document
presents both an 'Alphabetical Listing of Local Histories
by Book Title' as well as 'Local Histories listed by Place
Name'.
